Before & After-School Y-Care
All Y-Care programs and special days off require a minimum number of participants for the program to run.
As of January 4, 2018, in order to ensure the safety of our staff and students traveling in winter weather conditions, the Bloomsburg Area YMCA will no longer be holding Y-Care during 2-hour delays.
We have THREE locations to serve your needs:
- Central Columbia Elementary School
- Bloomsburg Memorial Elementary
- W.W. Evans Elementary
All of the sites are licensed by the PA Department of Human Services. If you are interested in receiving care at another school site, contact us to express your interest!
Keystone STARS Program
We participate in the Keystone STARS program which is an initiative of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning. Keystone STARS improves, supports, and recognizes the continuous quality improvement efforts of early learning programs in Pennsylvania.
Child Care Information Services (CCIS) of Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland Counties offers financial assistance. CCIS forms are available at the front desk of the Y, and should be submitted to CCIS a minimum of thirty days before care is scheduled to begin. The closest CCIS office to the Y is located at 398 Wall St. Danville, PA and is open M-F 8:30am-5:00pm or by phone at (570) 275-3996.
We are concerned about each child and strive to provide safe and fun experiences for all. We encourage children to participate, develop ideas, and most of all, have fun!
Our staff are certified in CPR/First Aid, fire safety, child abuse prevention and reporting, and emergency action plans. All staff have criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, and FBI fingerprinting clearances.
Our trained staff are experienced in working with children and look forward to playing a key role in your child’s educational program.
On Track for Success
Afterschool Programming is designed to help kids in every community succeed, developmentally and academically. Afterschool Programming focuses on five core content areas: academic achievement, creative expression, health and well-being, and teaching values and social skills.
The staff is versed in academic tutoring. Homework time is offered every day, and academic improvements are a focal point of our program.
Art is a great way for children to express themselves. Every week the kids are encouraged to be creative through crafts or individual projects using many types of media.
HEALTH & WELL-BEING
Childhood obesity is on the rise. The Y-Care program is determined to help fight this epidemic. Wholesome snacks are offered to the children every day. The children engage in physical activities on a daily basis.
TEACHING VALUES AND SOCIAL SKILLS
The four core values at the Y are respect, honesty, caring and responsibility. Every day these values are implemented in the structure of our program. Staff members practice positive reinforcement, and encourage students to work together to create a healthy positive atmosphere.
