BAY PRESCHOOL/DAY CARE

We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve.  That’s why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.

Our Preschool program is open to all children ages three to five. We are dedicated to providing educational, social, and recreational activities in an atmosphere of joyful learning and mutual respect.

About our Program

Preschool is in session from September through May from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in 3-day and 5-day options, generally following the Bloomsburg Area School District calendar; our exact starting date will be available at the beginning of March.

There are two age group options available:

  • 3 – 4 year olds – Classes emphasize socialization, language development, independence and motor skills in a small group setting.
  • 4 – 5 year olds – Classes emphasize pre-kindergarten activities.  Readiness, language development, social skills, pre-reading and printing, motor skills, and work habits are all taught in a positive environment with emphasis on individual abilities.

2-hour Day Care sessions before and after preschool time are also available as a part of our Preschool program depending on a family’s needs, with Before-Preschool Care starting at 6:30 a.m. and After-Preschool Care ending at 5:30 p.m.

To receive credit for vacation days, you must provide a notice at least 2 weeks in advance. Fees are set based on enrollment, not attendance; credit will be given for absences due to illness with a doctor’s excuse. Cancellation of care must be received in writing TWO WEEKS in advance of removal date.

Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis.

We will use the Creative Curriculum program in our Preschool. This program contains units and materials that encourage students to explore and discover new ideas. The Creative Curriculum emphasizes communication with parents, and features materials that parents can review, as well as an evaluation program to help teachers communicate a child’s success in the classroom.

In addition to this curriculum, teachers will lead units related to months, holidays, and special occasions following state standards.

Snacks are provided. Students must bring a lunch every day. Please do not use peanut products!

“The Bloomsburg Area YMCA has been a part of my life since my childhood, where I attended both the preschool and summer camps. Some of my most cherished memories have been experienced throughout my life at the YMCA. My husband Shawn and I enjoy spending time at the Y with our two children Braylin (11) and Anderson (7), both of whom have grown up as a part of the YMCA family.
The YMCA’s commitment to the community and family values is the ideal setting for me to continue my pursuit of doing what I love.”

Julia Frey

“I am very excited to have joined the YMCA as a preschool teacher, and am thrilled to be teaching your children. I enjoy teaching young children and seeing their eyes light up when they learn something new.
I grew up in the area and went to school in Bloomsburg. I then attended Bloomsburg University and graduated in 2005 with a dual degree in Special and Elementary Education. I previously taught Autistic Support for ten years.”
