Our Preschool program is open to all children ages 3 to 5. Preschool is held at the Bloomsburg Area YMCA from September through May, and generally follows the Bloomsburg Area School District calendar.

Classes for 3 to 4 years old meet twice a week for half day sessions and emphasize socialization, language development, independence and motor skills in a small group setting. The program includes a regularly scheduled gym class.

Classes for 4 to 5 years old offer two options: two half-day classes per week or three half-day classes. The Pre-kindergarten program empasizes readiness, language development, social skills, pre-reading and printing, motor skills and work habits, all taught in a positive environment with emphasis on individual abilities. The Pre-kindergarten program includes a regularly scheduled gym class.

Communication with parents is an important component of the program. Individual progress reports are sent home in January and May, and conferences and meetings are held as needed. A monthly newsletter keeps parents up-to-date on classroom activities, field trips and special events.

Classes are taught by Preschool Director Vicki Mihalik, a certified teacher with 30+ years experience, 20+ of which have been with the YMCA. Cindy Flick, Preschool Assistant with 20+ years in the Preschool, assists with all aspects of the program. Class size averages 12-16 children.

The Bloomsburg Area YMCA Preschool is dedicated to providing educational, social, and recreational activities in an atmosphere of joyful learning and mutal respect. Contact the YMCA to inquire about registration. Registration for the new school year begins February 1.
