It’s Time to Get Fit! 

The Bloomsburg Area YMCA is supporting the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During the month of May, we challenge all adults to get
30 minutes of physical activity every day.

Did you know that regular physical activity increases your chances of living a longer, healthier life? It also reduces your risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and some types of cancer. Yet in Pennsylvania, nearly 55% of adults don’t get the recommended amount of physical activity.

Recommended Amounts 

The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults:

  • Aim for 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Moderate activity includes things like walking fast, dancing, swimming, and raking leaves.
  • Do muscle-strengthening activities – like lifting weights or using exercise bands – at least 2 days a week.

Physical activity is for everyone. No matter what shape you’re in, you can find activities that work for you. Together, we can rise to the challenge and get more active during the month of May!

There are ways to stay active year-round at the YMCA. Our fitness centers feature equipment suitable for all levels, and our certified personal trainers can help you use them safely and effectively. Group fitness classes like Zumba, Indoor Cycling, and Kickboxing don’t just help you get your recommended physical activity per week, they can also improve your mental health! Looking for something more casual? Drop by for a game of Pickleball or Basketball in our gymnasium to make new friends and get in a fun workout while you’re at it!

Fit for All Ages

Staying active is important for all ages, not just adults. Remember to make sure your kids are getting the recommended activity time per day through sports, dance, or active games that get them away from their screens and into fitness!

BAY Summer Camp is committed to keeping kids active and mentally engaged throughout the summer. Student athletes can also focus on fitness with one of our outstanding trainers in Sport Performance, a program giving middle and high-school students a way to stay in shape after the school year has ended.

Swimming is a natural summer activity, and BAY Swim Team is a great place for kids to stay active while getting involved in a fun, competitive environment with their peers.
