The Bloomsburg Area YMCA recently checked in with two of our dedicated members, Ann Hoffner and Alice Getty. Here are their thoughts on how membership with the Y impacts their lives:
How long have you been a Y member?
Ann: I’ve belonged to the Y for 2 years and 2 months.
Alice: 3 years.
What are your 3 favorite things about BAY?
Ann: All the facility has to offer, the staff at the Y, and my fellow exercisers.
Alice: The YMCA is close to where I live, has a friendly atmosphere, and the treadmills are great with window views.
What purpose does the YMCA serve in your life?
Ann: To help me be more fit! After extensive surgery, it is serving me well, trying to get back to a normal lifestyle. Everyone has been so supportive.
Alice: I’ve had both knees and both hips replaced. Curves was no longer an option for me. One day coming back from the recycling center, I stopped in on impulse and joined that day. I had Autumn for the 3-day training sessions. She worked with me on what I was able to do. I’ve slowly built up to a routine that works for me. The Y keeps me moving in spite of the arthritis and has greatly helped me with balance and endurance.
Have you made a lot of friends at the Y?
Ann: Yes! I have met and connected with many great people. It makes you feel like everyone is into coming to the Y together.
Alice: Yes! Yes! Yes! Everyone has been so friendly and polite. It’s a good start to my Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays seeing the smiling faces and hearing hello!
What would your life be without BAY?
Ann: It would be a slow, boring start to my day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I would miss seeing all my Y friends.
Alice: I’d probably be at home sitting in my lift chair—not being able to move as I do now.
