We’re Fighting Cancer: LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

In our tight-knit community, it’s hard to find someone whose life hasn’t been touched by cancer. Whether it’s a family member, a colleague, or a friend, we’ve all known someone who has faced this devastating disease.

Survivors in our community have made it through the toughest challenge of their lives, but the process of recovery can still be long and fatiguing.

That’s where the Y comes in.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a twelve-week program of group fitness classes, strength training exercises, and group sessions for social and emotional support, all provided at no cost to participants thanks to generous contributions from community donors. These sessions have been affirmed through years of evidence to reduce fatigue and improve quality of life during recovery.

Medical studies have shown that moderate levels of physical activity can reduce fatigue, boost self-esteem, and improve strength and endurance in those recovering from cancer treatments. The Y is in a unique position to encourage and empower those living beyond cancer and towards recovery in a safe, supportive environment.

All staff offering the program are trained in cancer treatments and recovery.

Through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, the Y will embrace a new role in our community as a refuge and resource for cancer survivors.

Family Membership Included! We know that cancer affects not only the survivor, but their family and caregivers as well. To build a complete network of support, the Y is providing a three-month family membership to participants of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA at no additional cost.
