Bloomsburg Area YMCA Summer Camp

“Where Kids Come to Learn, Grow, & Explore”

For parents, extra support to keep children healthy and safe can go a long way. To give children an adventurous, active and healthy summer, the Bloomsburg Area Y is offering a variety of camp options to meet the needs of all our families’ youth in Bloomsburg and surrounding communities. YMCA camp programs provide a fun and unique experience that gives children and teens the opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.

The Bloomsburg Area Y offers Full Day Summer Camp for ages 5-12 and a Kiddie Camp for ages 3-4.  The Bloomsburg YMCA provides a variety of opportunities to help ensure that children are learning and being physically active in the summer.  Campers also learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals – all while having fun.

This camp is based on a 10-week program where the Y provides childcare for children ages 5-12 years during the hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm. Before and after camp care is also provided from 6:30am – 9:00am and 4:00pm – 5:30pm. Camp includes crafts, games and sports, enrichment time, character development, guest speakers, field trips, swimming, and much more.

The Original Summer Camp

At the Y, there is fun for everyone regardless of your age, income, or background. We bring people closer together in a welcoming, supportive environment to nurture the potential of youth, promote healthy living, and give back to the community.

This summer…

Children will learn, grow, and thrive through the exhilarating fun of camp at the YMCA. In the midst of all the fun, they’ll explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships.

Teens can have fun socializing with their friends in a safe, positive environment while exploring their interests, learning leadership skills, and discovering all they can achieve.

Counselors can express their unique personalities, share their diverse talents, and be a model for the future’s young leaders.

Plan your summer fun at the Y and experience the impact we can make in your life and in the community.

Our Caring Staff

The YMCA Summer Camp staff will provide a safe environment with planned activities that are exciting and age-appropriate. Counselors are selected based on their educational skills, maturity, creativity, and sensitivity to the needs of campers.

All counselors have criminal and child abuse clearances, and are certified in First Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire/Water safety, and Emergency Action Plans.

You can rest assured that the Bloomsburg Area YMCA counselors are trained, caring, and positive role models.

We believe in maintaining regular communication with parents. To receive text updates about camp, text BAYCAMP to 84483.

Everyone Belongs at the Y: Financial Assistance

Individuals and families may apply for financial assistance for membership and programs such as childcare and day camp. Assistance from the Early Learning Resource Center is extremely easy to sign up for, but please be advised to apply as soon as possible; some applications may be wait-listed.

Call ELRC at 570-271-9550 or learn more online at www.elrc-csc.org/region-11/. The process is confidential. Applications are also available at the Bloomsburg Area YMCA.

Sign In/Sign Out Procedure

Every day, your child must be signed in and out by an adult listed on the contact list you complete during registration. For your child’s safety, we require anyone picking up a child to show a picture ID.

What to Pack Every Day

Full-day campers need to bring the following items daily, labeled with the child’s name in the backpack:

  • Water Bottle
  • Towel
  • Swim Suit (one piece for girls)
  • Tennis Shoes (Closed-toe shoes, NO flip-flops!)
  • No-Rub, Spray-on Sunscreen to reapply through the day

Most campers spend the day outdoors. Children must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. No sandals or flip-flops are permitted. Sunscreen should be applied before camp and brought to camp.

Age Groups

Camps are organized by grade. All campers must be entering the grade in the fall as listed for each camp. Our ratios range from 1 staff leader for every 7 campers for the younger grades to 1 staff leader for every 10 campers for the older grades.

Swim Test Requirement

Campers will complete a brief water competency check during the first week of camp to ensure water safety. If not attending the first week of camp, a water competency check will be done the first time your camper swims.

Special Needs

YMCA leaders are encouraging, patient, and can help facilitate successful camp experiences for children with mild to moderate disabilities. For specific questions regarding your child, please contact Ashley Miccio by email at amiccio@bloomsburgy.org or by phone at 570-784-0188.

Lunch

Thanks to the Tapestry of Health, all of our summer campers are allowed to participate in the Free Lunch Program at Memorial Elementary. This does not include field trip days.

T-Shirt/Y Bag

With your registration, you will receive one Bloomsburg Y Camp shirt. It is important that all our campers have a camp shirt for our field trip days. Camp shirts will also be available for $10 if you would like a second shirt or if you lose your original one.

Registration Information

Day Camp is a 10-week program that runs from June 10th – August 16th. Campers can sign up for one or more weeks. Free extended care hours are available from 6:30am – 9:00am and from 4:00pm – 5:30pm.
