Adaptive Fitness at the YMCA

11:00a – 12:00p Thursdays

Adaptive Fitness is a 1 hour fitness class designed to enhance stability, mobility, spatial awareness, and socialization, open to young adults with special needs in high school who are transitioning to adult life in the community, and to adults with special needs in our community.

Our goal is making group fitness and all its benefits accessible to all, and to make fitness and socialization an important part of the lives of individuals with special needs in our community. Group fitness can facilitate social interaction, physical well-being, and allow for a sense of community.

Warm-Up: 15 minute low-intensity warm up to prepare participants to engage in the conditioning portion of class.

Conditioning: 25 minutes of conditioning including mobility, stability and balance, movement patterns and activities to enhance spatial awareness. Supported positioning (performing exercises while seated) will be available to participants who require assistance.

Cool-Down: 15 minute low-intensity cool down to gradually lower heart rate and allow participants to comfortably return to a state of less work.
